Introduction

When walking the tightrope of life, being pulled to the other side feels more comfortable than being pushed.

The Coaching Tip

Here's a juicy, descriptive image to use with your clients to illustrative Pull vs. Push:

Imagine you are precariously balanced on a tightrope. Every sense in your body is alive and active and you can feel the risk in where you are. You aren't all on your own, however, as you are safely attached by a rope to the line above you. If you fell, you would be caught by the safely engineered rope. It would be up to you, though, to put yourself back on the tightrope to a standing position.

Now image that your task is to walk to a platform 20 feet in front of you. Which feels more comfortable? A force/person pushing you to reach the other side or a force/person pulling you forward? I'm betting most of you would choose to be pulled forward.

When we are precariously balancing an issue, we are not alone. God, universe, community supports our walk -- but it's up to us to put ourselves into action. And if we have a vision, if our desire to reach the other side fills our mind and pulls us forward, the journey will be made easier for us.
