Definitions
Openness allows possibilities. - "Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed." (Jack Kornfield)
Doing nothing invites evil activity. - "The Devil finds work for idle hands." (Proverb)
Comparisons
open vs. close
possibility based vs. fear based
Example
Betty is running from the moment she wakes up to the moment she drops in bed at night. She makes little to no room for extreme self-care and only rests when she is sick. She is had to say no several times to opportunities because of limited time. She is beginning to feel burned out and feels very uncomfortable with the idea of doing nothing. Doing nothing scares her because she will have to give up her perceived "control." Beth has made a shift to include uncommited time in her schedule. She likes to give herself room to move slowly from task to task and says yes to only those invitations which make her stronger or fill her with joy. She wakes up each day wondering what gifts the universe has in store for her.
Key Point
By making space in our schedules for rest and inactivity, we allow the universe to co-create our lives.
