The Top 10 Ways Coaches Support Their ClientsCategory: Coaching Tools and Skills (CG12)Originally Submitted on 11/6/2000. 1. Listen Compassionately and Without Judgment I listen to what you say and how you say it without an agenda of my own. As your coach, I'll also listen to what you may not be saying and we will discover together what's behind your reluctance or silence. 2. Believe in Your Greatness I accept you just as you are and believe that you and I are going to do great things together. My philosophy is that each of us is already all that we could ever hope to be and more. Maybe you're seeking to buff up a certain area of your life or to get that spark back into your life. As your coach, I am a catalyst for change. Let's have fun with this discovery process! 3. Help You Stay Focused Remaining focused is a challenge for many of us. When upgrading your life, however, you'll find yourself drawn, or attracted to the direction you desire. As your coach, I'll help you focus on real-life applications of our coaching, the action steps you'll need to take, and point out any shifts in thinking you experience on our journey. Most importantly, I'm going to hold you accountable for completing what we have discussed. 4. Point Out Energy Drains Are you exhausted or overwhelmed? In our coaching sessions, we will determine what's draining your energy. You'll discover that as you handle these energy-drainers, you'll find that space, time and energy will open up for you. This space might be quiet and creative or it might be space where you can add wonderful new habits to your life to take care of yourself. 5. Encourage You To Take Wonderful Care of Yourself Taking care of yourself means taking the steps necessary to give your body, mind and spirit what it needs to flourish and be whole. You now have the opportunity to develop new habits that just make you feel good. Do you need more rest or better nutrition? What would make your heart sing? Could it be some quiet time alone, a walk on the beach or playing softball with friends? I'll help you identify how you can do this for yourself. 6. Request That You Make a Commitment In order to make significant changes in your life, you must be committed to this process of change. I won't promise you that the process will always be easy; in fact, you might find it very challenging. You can choose to travel this path to a better life alone or to work with a coach. As your coach, I can help you get to this next level of your life more quickly than you might on your own. I'll make requests of you and challenge you on your journey. I expect you to make the commitment to grow and to be accountable for the changes in your life. 7. Assist you in Suspending the Belief of "Should" I shoulda, coulda, woulda....Who's life are you living, anyway? Is it truly your life and what you thought it should be, or is it fulfilling someone else's expectations? What’s missing? What limits are you putting on yourself? As your coach, I'll help you get "unstuck" from your belief systems, ineffective habits, and inability to focus to propel your forward! 8. Ask Questions I'll ask you lots of questions that you may or may not be able to immediately answer. My purpose in questioning you is to extract all the info that I need to help guide your toward your insight. 9. Tell the Truth Sometimes the truth is the last thing we want to hear--or tell. We often avoid telling the hard truth because we don't want to upset anyone. I will tell you the truth compassionately, but it's also about telling the truth to yourself, even if it hurts a little. Together we can see how great being in "truth" is and how to move forward with truth. 10. Celebrate Your Progress When you work with a coach, there's no doubt that you'll make great progress toward those accomplishments you want to achieve. However, we sometimes become so caught up in the process of accomplishment that we forget to celebrate all the progress made along the way. I will challenge you to acknowledge all that we have accomplished together and help you celebrate that progress!
